COL. David Redmond is the Deputy Commander for Dental Services at Keller Army Community Hospital.
COL David Redmond started his Army career in 1992 as a Junior Enlisted assigned to the Panama DENTAC. During his first three years, he graduated from the Preventive Dentistry Hygiene Course, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and graduated from Panama Canal College with an associate degree in science. His time in Panama culminated with his acceptance into the Green to Gold Scholarship Program in the fall of 1995.
COL Redmond graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Jacksonville State University in Alabama and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps in the summer of 1997. He was assigned to Fort Campbell, KY where he served as the Battalion Maintenance Officer and Headquarters Company Executive Officer with the 86th Combat Support Hospital. He also served as the Adjutant at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital before spending 3 years as the Fort Campbell DENTAC Company Commander and XO. He earned the Air Assault Badge as a cadet and Expert Field Medical Badge while assigned at Fort Campbell.
In 2004, COL Redmond was awarded the Health Professions Scholarship. He attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2008. Upon graduation, COL Redmond was assigned to the First Term Dental Readiness Clinic at Fort Sill, OK for two years.
In 2010, COL Redmond served in Grafenwöhr Germany, assigned to the Bavaria DENTAC. Upon promotion to Major, he became the Officer in Charge (OIC) of Vilseck Dental Clinic. Also, during this assignment, he was selected to attend and successfully completed the Exodontia Program at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, graduated from the Captains Career Course, and successfully completed the Grafenwöhr one-year Intermediate Level Education (ILE) course.
In 2014, COL Redmond was chosen by Human Resources Command to become the OIC of a brand-new Dental Clinic for the 7th Special Forces Group at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. This Joint Service Assignment involved the Fort Benning DENTAC, 7th Special Forces Group (SFG), and Eglin Air Force’s 96th Dental Squadron (DS) in Florida. COL Redmond facilitated the opening of a new six-chair General Dentistry Readiness Clinic that served the 7th SFG Soldiers.
In 2017, COL Redmond was assigned to Hawaii DENTAC where he worked at both Tripler Army Medical Center and Fort Shafter Bhaskar Dental Clinic. In June 2021, he graduated from the 2-year comprehensive dentistry residency at Schofield Barracks, simultaneously earning a Master of Science Degree in Oral Biology from Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS).
In July 2021, he was assigned to the Rheinland-Pfalz DENTAC as the Executive Officer, followed by Interim DENTAC Commander, and then OIC of Landstuhl Specialty Dental Clinic.
On May 23, 2024, he assumed command of the Dental Health Activity at USMA West Point, NY. On 17JUL24, he received the Order of Military Medical Merit (O2M3) for over 15 years of exemplary contributions to the United States Army Medical Department. In January 2025, the Association of Army Dentistry published an article on him involving a first-person story of the positive influence of mentorship and the strength of commitment across his 26-year career as an enlisted Soldier, MSC Officer, and Dental Corps Officer.
