Lt. Col. Eric S. Mutchie is the Deputy Commander for Nursing & Health Services at Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point, N.Y.
His military service began when he entered the delayed entry program in the Army Reserve as a combat medic in 1996 with the 452nd Combat Support Hospital out of Milwaukee, Wisc. He attended Basic Combat Training in 1997 at Ft. Leonard Wood and Advance Individual Training at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Viterbo University and was commissioned through the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse ROTC program. He is a Board-Certified Nurse Executive, a board Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
His commissioned service began as a staff nurse in 2004 on Ward 75 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was then selected lead Walter Reed’s Executive Medicine Outpatient Clinic, coordinating care for senior military and government officials. He was selected to help stand up the Warrior Transition Brigade at Walter Reed and served as a Nurse Case Manager until 2009. From there he went to Camp Stanley, Republic of Korea and served as the clinic Officer-in-Charge, and Area 1 Nurse Case Manager. Following that tour he transitioned to the Clinical Nurse, Officer in Charge (CNOIC) of Primary Care at Kirk Army Health Clinic at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. He was then assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion in Vilseck, Germany as the Senior Nurse Case Manager where he helped close the unit. After he closed the unit, he graduated from the Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Healthcare Administration with a Master’s in Healthcare Administration. He subsequently completed his administrative residency at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. After he completed his residency, he fulfilled a variety of roles at Blanchfield including Nurse Methods Analyst, CNOIC ICU, CNOIC Air Assault Clinic, Chief of Ambulatory Nursing, and executive officer. LTC Mutchie was also MAP to the 531st Hospital Center where he served as the ICW section chief, Chief of Inpatient Operations at the Javits New York Medical Station, and as a UAMTF Liaison Officer in Eau Claire, Wisc.
His military education includes the Army Medical Department Officer Basic Course, Captains Career Course, Army Nurse Case Management Course, Lean 6 Sigma Black Belt, the Entry Level Nurse Executive Course, and Intermediate Level Education.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oakleaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two oakleaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Korean Defense Medal, and Overseas Ribbon x2.
